The massive SVA dorm complex at the northwest corner of Ludlow and Delancey is nearing completion. The brownish 20-story eyesore, pompously referred to as the “Ludlow Residence,” will reportedly open for the 2008-2009 academic year. Adding insult to injury, the official school website [link] boasts that “residents can take advantage of the diverse neighborhood or relax outside on the 2nd floor terrace.” TERRACE!? So let me get this straight. College students can judge from afar by literally looking down upon the very residents who make this area unique? Neighborhood sterility is nigh.

As for the ground floor, we can probably expect some upscale retail. I have my money on a combination of high-end boutiques and/or glorified fast food joints catering to college kids (fro-yo, Chipotle, Rickshaw).
