Stuck in the Middle of Houston

Crossing Houston yesterday, I noticed this commemorative block sitting in the median. The fading language indicates that the Houston Street Mall was christened in 1957 by Mayor Robert Wagner and commissioned by Robert Moses; and again in 1998 by Rudy Giuliani.
I’m glad this piece of history wasn’t discarded with the rest of the street.
