Front Street Fleeing
Their stickers are a mainstay on the Lower East Side. Virtually every lamppost, street sign, and fire hydrant has one. Yet despite such ubiquity, urban lifestyle company Front Street is heading back to its online roots in the coming months. Hanging in the doorway of its 47 Orchard Street locale is an apocalyptic For Rent sign. In this case, the reason for closing is not necessarily just a rent increase. The man behind the counter informed me that there’s just not enough foot traffic to justify the brick-and-mortar store. Also, that it’s much cheaper to do business online.
