LES-ploitation: The Extra Man
Another romantic comedy is preying on the Lower East Side, as evidenced by the Haddad vehicles parked along Chrystie Street yesterday. Entitled The Extra Man, the film stars Katie Holmes, Kevin Kline, and John C. Reilly.
The scene in question was shot at the classic Spanjer Signs, and according to a production assistant, will be the setting of a transvestite. He also mentioned that filming in the area will continue for the next month, so drop a line if you spot Tom Cruise in the neighborhood.
Spanjer Signs is another was once a relic of the neighborhood. Founded by a Dutch immigrant in 1908, the Canal Street business made its fortunes manufacturing signage for city merchants. Especially those fresh off the boats. However, it wasn’t until 1926 that they relocated to 189 Chrystie Street.
UPDATE: Yes, as a commenter points out, this is The Box. Apologies for the confusion.
LES-ploitation indeed.
