New Occupant at 55 Delancey
Just over one year ago, the classic Lichtenstein & Co. signage at 55 Delancey was painted black, the windows scrubbed bare. In the interim, the vacant space fell into disrepair, and was plagued with plenty of broken glass, street stickers, and graffiti. And except for a new sidewalk out front and blue “for rent” advertising, progress at the site has been fairly minimal.
All that is about to change, though. Starting a week from today, A New Currency, an artist collective from the School of Visual Arts, will temporarily occupy the space for its work. The exhibition will last until June 28. After that, it’s anyone’s guess.
Lichtenstein & Co. is still in business, but now occupies a smaller space at 95 Delancey.
