On Great Jones Street between Broadway and Lafayette, an ominous sign warns pedestrians that the sidewalk is “hollow.” Does this imply that collapse is inevitable? We’ll be sure to steer clear, especially after reading about the subway grate collapse in Brooklyn last week.
