128 Hester Street Evacuated

Yesterday afternoon, residents of 128 Hester Street were evacuated and promptly given a 24-hour vacate order. The 16-unit building has had a number of DOB complaints in the past, and will reportedly be demolished due to stability problems; the scaffolding is pretty much holding up the building. Tenants will be let in one final time today to collect their lives.
We headed over there early this morning and found the area teeming with press. Reporters were busy interviewing people on the street, while camera personnel were setting up their gear.
