Along the sliver of Mott Street between Houston and Prince, urban etiquette has a more childlike tone.  Many of the trees lining the western side of the street are wrapped in playful pleas to dog-walkers and cyclists.  Each one is written in first-person perspective.

This particular note reads:

“Dear bicycle riding person, I need your help. My skin/bark/rhytidome is getting sore and beat up. Could you please put a bandana under the area that your lock touches me? You see, this bark protects me and allows the water to get from the ground up to my branches and leaves. I am young and striving still to become strong and established. Thanks. Your tree. XO.”

And of course, there’s always one jackass who can’t resist.
