Bowery Bazaar to Close for Good

If we build it, they will come.  Not so for The Bowery Bazaar, the retail space comprised of 36 new designers and artisans, which opened last fall.  It never really got off the ground despite the cool look of the space.    Yes, they had the designers but they couldn’t attract the customers.  For most of the designers and artisans, business wasn’t great and especially disappointing during the crucial December holiday season.

Organizers decided to “re-brand” The Bowery Bazaar as Boutiques on Bowery to reopen in March, and even etched the glass with the new name.  This re-branding was essentially the same as before except with a new name and a new Brazilian coffee shop.  They got some interest with some new designers signing up.  But then we heard that they were slashing prices 50 percent which sounded like the beginning of the end. The latest word is that they’ve decided not to reopen as Boutiques on Bowery and to close for good.
