Progress Report: Construction at 2 Allen Street
In the three months since our last progress report, work on the underpinning job at the construction site of 2 Allen Street (aka 1-3 Orchard) has moved along steadily; backhoes dug deep below street level in an attempt to stabilize the adjacent Jarmulowski Bank Building. But now there’s a partial stop work order in place.

According to DOB records, the partial stop work order was issued on March 15 for “Construction – Contrary/Beyond Approved Plans/Permits.” Said approved plans seem to include a seven-story replacement building which will house “commercial and community facility units.” After all, the property is zoned in a commercial district.

The foundation should be poured pretty soon. At least once the edict is lifted.
