55 East Houston Gets Exterior Makeover

As part of a larger renovation project at 55 East Houston (aka 293 Mott), La Cocina Deli Grocery on the ground level is getting an exterior facelift. We stopped in yesterday to pick up a few provisions, and asked the cashier for the scoop. He said that the whole Houston facade is being re-surfaced to fall in line with the building’s new sandstone look.

Much of the store awning was pried away last week, and in its place, a sidewalk shed with a spray-painted assurance that the corner bodega is indeed open.
