Under renovation since last June, the Hester Street Playground in the southern section of Sara D. Roosevelt Park is finally nearing the finish line. Judging by the state-of-the-art jungle gym set and stacks of new benches awaiting installation, the park appears to be on schedule for its ambiguous summer 2010 completion date. Recess is nigh. Who’s in?

And here is a recap of the project, per NYC.gov:
The new playground will provide a safe, clean and exciting new play space for children in Chinatown and the Lower East Side. It will include accessible play equipment, a spray shower, benches, drinking fountains and lighting. The plaza area will be reconstructed and include new paving, seating and tables. Trees, shrubs and mixed plants will be included, and public restrooms will be constructed within the existing park building.
