New Cemusa Newsstand at Grand and Bowery
The latest old-world neighborhood newsstand to succumb to the antiseptic touch of Cemusa was located at the northeast corner of Grand Street and Bowery. Situated on a such a narrow slice of concrete, the newly-erected glass enclosure seems to inhibit the flow of human traffic. Not only that, given its close proximity to the front of 240 Grand Street, both awnings practically meet to form a quasi-canopy above the sidewalk.

Until recently, this particular stretch of Grand Street between Chrystie and Bowery housed three of the smallest, most dilapidated red newsstands. It’s only a matter of time before Grim Cemusa returns to pay these holdouts a visit.
