Local Comedienne Jessica Delfino to Create BP Crisis Documentary

Local performer-slash-comedienne Jessica Delfino (and Alex M. Smith) is heading to the Gulf on a dual-pronged mission to both volunteer in oil cleanup, and to capture the BP crisis firsthand for her new documentary.  The feature-length film is called Dirty Rainbow: Crisis in the Gulf, and will focus on “the people of New Orleans and their spirit through the spill.” Meanwhile, the Boycott Pollution wheat-paste is showing up in random places these days, like the door to the Germania Bank Building.

We received an email from Delfino over the weekend regarding the project, including a link to the Kickstarter fundraiser page. From the inbox:

I’m working on a documentary, re: the oil spill in New Orleans and going to volunteer in the clean up as well. It’s a feature length film which focuses on the people of New Orleans and their spirit through the spill. It’s called, Dirty Rainbow: Crisis at the Gulf. I’m excited for this project, and also a little bit scared.

I’ll be interviewing fascinating peeps in the Gulf area and also composing the soundtrack to the film, using my own original music and New Orleans area musicians.

If you or someone you know can donate to the project, any contribution of any size will help us meet our goal.

And here is a description of Dirty Rainbow.

This documentary will focus on talking to the people of New Orleans who are currently being directly effected by this catastrophe, including small business owners, local artists and performers, long-time residents, and volunteers who are working to clean up the spill.

We are aware that the oil spill is getting a lot of coverage, but the media is not giving us the full picture. We are on no one’s payroll. We have nothing to hide, and we have no reason to cover up the truth.

We are simply a real-life couple who are passionate about environmental issues and the human condition. We are compelled to find gripping stories of human triumph in the face of tragedy and tell them. We are driven to get information that others may have missed.
