As the seasons pass, the Lower East Side becomes ever more a concept for merchandisers. We’ve seen it all before, from perfume lines evoking the Bowery to J. Crew and their selection of Stanton Pants or Ludlow Suits. And now it’s time for Payless ShoeSource to get in on the action.

Boogie contributor Steven sent along the following picture from inside one store with a note saying, “the commoditization of the Lower East Side continues.” Apparently, the budget shoe store is exploiting the neighborhood for its new line of accessories and such. Pictured here beneath the requisite signage are rings and barrettes designed with kitchty catchwords – truth, love, rock. Blech.
