Hotel Chantelle Grand Opening is Tonight

For three weeks, the swanky tri-level Hotel Chantelle has been operating quietly in soft-open mode.  Crowds outside 92 Ludlow Street aren’t too bad yet, not even on the weekends.  But all that could change in a matter of days. A Boogie reader just learned from barkeep-slash-owner Benjamin Shih that tonight is the official grand opening, with open bar from 5 pm to 7 pm.

At this point, the opening is still relegated to the main floor bar and for drinks only.  The kitchen is waiting for another round of inspections, and Shih hopes to have it up and running after the new year.

But it’s the gimmicky rooftop and basement spaces that will ultimately attract revelers, both of which are forthcoming.  Thanks to an all-weather retractible ceiling, the roof deck will spring an “Edward scissorhandian topiary garden with hedges and trees in the shapes of animals.”  And then there’s the allegedly not-so-VIP basement lounge hangout for “people in the neighborhood” which requires a skeleton key to enter.
