Bustin’s Longboard Loft Now Open on Allen Street

It’s great to see the younger generation carrying the torch of city skate culture.  And, of course, it helps having a home base for boarders to meet and hang out.  That haven is the freshly-christened Longboard Loft at 132 Allen Street, a new retail establishment by Brooklyn-based brand Bustin.

We’ve been following developments here for the last couple months, and can now report that the new shop is open for business.  Official launch was Friday.  By Saturday afternoon, word was out and the joint was packed with a melting-pot clientele – kids, hipsters, fashionistas, yuppies, everyone.  All gawking at the wall of wheels and racks of various decks.

Throughout the day, meanwhile, numerous skaters could be seen practicing tricks and such on the cracked concrete of the Allen Street Mall.  As expected, many capitalized on the perfect compass-bench obstacles planted by volunteers of the Mall-terations community project.  A new scene…

So far, community sentiment toward Bustin’s arrival in the neighborhood seems positive.  Throughout our coverage of their new outpost, we received responses from many readers who are pumped by their presence.  We should also note that longboarding has definitely mainstreamed in the last few years.  It’s no longer uncommon to catch a suit commuting to and from work on one.
