Frank Prisinzano’s Sauce Receives Plywood Wall at 78 Rivington

Last month, we reported that East Village restaurateur Frank Prisinzano was bringing his flair for Italian cuisine south of the Houston border.  The patriarch of the “Frank” mini-empire settled on the recently-vacated 78 Rivington Street to unleash his new culinary concept, Sauce.  It’s already off to a rocky start, though, as Community Board 3 summarily denied its application for a wine and beer license during April’s SLA meeting.

Despite this initial adversity, Sauce is intensifying its build-out efforts inside the storefront, which was formerly occupied by Kampuchea and Bun & Co.  As of yesterday, virtually all signs of the prior establishments are now obstructed by a fresh eight-foot wall of plywood.  The sidewalk eyesore hugs the frontage of the entire property, wrapping well around the corner onto Allen Street.  Or, in other words, 78 Rivington is now encased in a new canvas for local graffiti artists.

Meanwhile, Chico’s Bun & Co. mural is awaiting its proverbial execution.
