Handing Out Smiles on Rivington Street
The intersection of Essex and Rivington seems to curate some of the most vibrantly organic street art in the neighborhood. What’s here is usually eclectic, whether it’s colorful picture frames hanging from crossing signals, funny tags, or random wheat-paste. And, of course, who could forget the priceless “tourist lane” stencil project from the folks at Improv Everywhere?

Yesterday afternoon, we spotted a rather heartwarming DIY tear-tab flyer pasted to a light pole all by its lonesome on the southeast corner of Essex and Rivington Streets. The purpose – to spread the love by distributing emoticon smiles to pedestrians. Although, from the look of it, people don’t seem so happy here…
