Reamir & Co. Shutters Its 9 Stanton Salon

During the holiday season last year (a cool memory for this sweltering day), dudes in sandwich boards began distributing flyers at the southeast corner of Bowery and East Houston.  The street promotion was for a new branch of the Reamir & Co. branded salons at 9 Stanton Street.  This address, of course, previously housed the Yellow Fever Clothing boutique headed by Jamison Ernest.

Those sandwich boarders spent weeks doling out the press material, but the venture never seemed to reap any return on the investment.  9 Stanton rarely attracted customers for a buzz or shave.  Not surprisingly, the “best luxury barber shop chain” suffered a loss with this satellite location after only six months.  The interior was quickly dismantled, and a new leasing sign placed on the storefront marquee.

To be fair, though, this block is not highly trafficked, making it tough for upscale business to survive here.  Perhaps that’s why we enjoy this stretch of pavement.  It’s not so much of a destination.
