HBO Cancels “How to Make it in America”

Top Brass at HBO canceled a slew of shows yesterday afternoon, including second-year-series How to Make it in America. Throughout the last two years, the production intermittently parked up much of the Lower East Side to capture a somewhat-cliche plot-line of cool kids struggling to make ends meet in the big city. Indeed, watching the show was akin to walking the neighborhood, with various visual shout-outs to some local business (e.g. Ray’s Candy Store, New Roma Pizza).

How to Make it in America was one of three half-hour HBO comedy shows to receive the axe. Hung and Brooklyn-based cult Bored to Death also met the same fate. Critically applauded, yet low-rated Enlightened survived the layoffs, though.

Meanwhile, we’ve collected a couple of responses from the cast, via Twitter:

The Rasta Monsta himself, Luis Guzman, responded to the news with the following Tweet:

Bryan Greenberg:

Thank you to all of the fans of How To Make It. We aimed to capture the spirit of a generation. Never stop going for your dreams.

Lake Bell:

Genuine thanks for the #howtomakeitinamerica support… Guess I’m actually gonna need that dollar, dollar. Dollar is what I need, heh-hey.

How do you feel about these cancellations?
