Five Points Era Drama “Copper” Premieres in August
The oft-romanticized Five Points era of Gotham history is coming to the small screen later this summer, thanks to BBC America. Copper, as it’s called, is the network’s first original drama, a fictionalized story set in the notorious slum neighborhood of the 1860s. Press materials email-blasted yesterday indicate that the ten-part series will premiere on Sunday, August 19.

Copper remains in production until the end of May, but nowhere near our island. Indeed, as we reported in February, the Five Points neighborhood is being recreated in Toronto.
The show itself was created by Tom Fontana (Oz, St. Elsewhere) and Will Rokos (Monster’s Ball, Southland); co-executive producers include Barry Levinson (Good Morning, Vietnam, Rain Man) and Christina Wayne, President of Cineflix Studios (Mad Men).
