Angles will soon have a followup.
NME confirmed recent rumors that the Strokes are already recording their fifth record, what would be the followup to Angles (our top pick of 2011). After RCA denied the reports, the UK publication tracked down guitarist Albert Hammond Jr.’s father (English singer/songrwriter Albert Hammond) to obtain the skinny on the situation.
Apparently the hometown boys are working on some “incredible stuff.”
“Albert says that the stuff they’re doing is incredible. They’re doing it themselves with their friend, engineer and producer. He just says ‘Dad, it’s incredible’.”
And with regard to the sound on the new album and whether it’s a departure for the quintet, elder Hammond mentioned:
“I don’t think they’ll go in a wildly different direction. Obviously the songs will be different, but I think The Strokes are The Strokes; they always will be The Strokes.”
