American Apparel Celebrates 9 Years on the Lower East Side

Hard to believe, but the American Apparel outpost on the Lower East Side turns nine this Thursday. Nine! The retail store at 183 East Houston was both a product of and force behind the first act of hyper-gentrification.
Desensitized. All these years later, its corporate hipster-ish presence seems oddly tame. Unless, of course, you factor in their controversial billboards around the corner on Allen Street.
To celebrate the occasion, the shop is throwing a fashion fete which includes some sales and gifts (4-8pm). If you bring the invite below, you’ll receive 15% off a purchase over $50.
