Miramax Announces ‘Gangs of New York’ TV Series

Not sure how we feel about this, but the Gangs of New York franchise is headed to the small screen. Like the feature film, Miramax and Martin Scorsese are behind the new series, announced yesterday. Most television spinoffs seem to fail, so we’re cautiously optimistic here. Either way, BBC America can’t be happy, especially considering its currently filming season 2 of Copper.
In a statement from the Miramax website:
The series will draw from the multitude of events surrounding organized gangs at the turn of the century and shortly thereafter in America, not only in New York, but in other cities such as Chicago and New Orleans and the birth of organized crime in America.
