Mendel Goldberg Fabrics Returns to 72 Hester Street

Last April, a fire at 72 Hester Street nearly leveled the Mendel Goldberg Fabrics family business. The basement blaze forced the decades-old company into diaspora at 243 Broome. Now, exactly one year later, the fourth-generation-run supply shop is finally returning from exile.
Contractors had ratcheted up the buildout in recent months and finally completed the job last week. Fabrics and gear were removed from the temporary shop around the corner and transported back to the rightful home. Meanwhile, 243 Broome is still on a quest to find a more permanent tenancy.
Before Mendel Goldberg sought refuge here, former boutique stalwart TG170 called this spot home.
