In a playground dominated by diminishing souvenir stalls and knockoff outlets, one corporate fashion hub hopes to change the consumer landscape. Necessary Clothing now has a gargantuan outlet at 261-263 Canal Street, between Centre and West Broadway. The discount fashion retailer inked the lease back in late July. The deal was a watershed moment for Canal Street, which carpetbagging brokers hope to transform into “an extension of Broadway in SoHo.” At roughly 11,000 square-feet across two levels, it’s the largest deal in this neck of Chinatown in quite some time.
Necessary Clothing is now certified open, arriving roughly five months after initial projections. This is the fifth location in the downtown area for the brand, joining its brethren in both SoHo and NoHo.
