[Photo: Children’s Magical Garden]Neighborhood students in the immediate vicinity were distraught by what allegedly transpired yesterday afternoon at the Children’s Magical Garden. Since the arrival of the notorious fence, locals have created posters and banners of opposition to hang around the site. According to a witness, those adornments were reportedly ripped from both inside and outside the chain-link by four men described to be in their thirties. One student at Marta Valle across the street posted the following video:
Volunteers asked the security guard now stationed at the scene if he saw anything. The purported response says it all – “my job is to watch the fence.” Nice. Anyway, by day’s end, order (and some signs) was restored.

[Photo: Children’s Magical Garden]It was last Wednesday that developer Serge Hoyda greenlit the construction of a fence through the Children’s Magical Garden. He owns a third of the parcel and has plans to develop. The remaining L-shaped space is city land via HPD. Garden representatives will appear before Community Board 3 next month to help gain support. In the meantime, you can sign the petition to help save the park space.
