Gargyle Boutique on Orchard is Closing Shop

A five-year tenure for any boutique on the Lower East Side is considered a feat in itself. Most out there rarely last two. Gargyle at 16 Orchard Street falls into the former category. The cut-out letters in the windows and on the sandwich board outside the establishment collectively announce that the peddlers of “vintage country club” are moving. Fashion flight du jour.
It’s the same ole shit around here – rents are going up so Gargyle is leaving. Although, “move” seems like the wrong word, as a new location is not yet secured. Perhaps limbo is a better descriptor. For the time being, the brand will continue its business online through its website.
Gargyle first arrived in this eastern Chinatown annex in August 2008, having crossed the bridge from DUMBO.
