Cell phone robberies are seemingly on the rise of late.
A tipster tells us that early yesterday morning, two male Hispanics allegedly snatched a woman’s cell phone outside 123 Rivington Street (Welcome to the Johnson’s). Apparently plainclothes officers in an undercover cab witnessed the scene, while the woman screamed “give me my phone.” Cops tackled the perp and immediately took him into custody at 2:30 am.
This latest petty crime on Rivington transpired a week after a 34-year-old woman fell victim to a similar attack near the corner of Essex and Broome (August 19). In that incident, the outnumbered robber brazenly snatched the phone directly from her hands and ran off into the dead of night.
Here is the video evidence showing why you shouldn’t flash your phone around while walking the neighborhood streets at night. NBC obtained surveillance footage of the man near Essex and Broome.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
