Row, row, row your boat gently down the Bowery…
Mere days after the New Museum pruned its flower, there’s new growth to report. So to speak. Two enormous thirty-six-foot towers were hoisted to the rooftop of 235 Bowery in the wee hours of Wednesday. The second piece of Chris Burden’s puzzle was placed just after midnight.
As expected, flatbeds parked curbside to unload the bounty, now hanging from the coveted spot preciously held by the “Hell, Yes” rainbow and Isa Genzkin’s rose. It’s affixed to the exterior of the fifth-story landing.
And what a spectacle. Chris Burden was there through the night. Traffic stopped, drunken bar-goers whipped out iPhones, and inquisitive motorists rubbernecked. Rig to rig took about three hours.
Both these facade fixtures are part of the “Extreme Measures” exhibit which kicks off on October 2.
