2A No Longer Projecting Films on Avenue A

An East Village tradition has ended; blame the city.
Word is trickling down the pike that bar 2A just discontinued its longstanding and beloved practice of nighttime film projections. A Boogie birdie relays the unfortunate news that the city recently issued a cease-and-desist letter to the corner bar at 25 Avenue A. Rare movies and other visuals (e.g. Tetris) on the brick exterior across the street were commonplace for over two decades.
The New York City Housing Authority owns 29 Avenue A, and our best guess is that they want compensation. We reached out to the bar for comment but did not hear back in time for publication.

29 Avenue A is a NYCHA property
2A has been a fixture at the corner of Avenue A and 2nd Street since 1985. It’s one of the last old school no-frills watering holes in the neighborhood.
