Future home of Russ & Daughters Cafe
With the liquor license application now public, we now have some additional information on the Russ & Daughters Cafe planned for 127 Orchard Street. It’ll be a classic dairy and appetizing establishment serving its familiar food during all hours proposed (8am – 12am daily).
The sticking point here, of course, would be booze in a saturated area (i.e. Hell Square) – licensing a store that was not previously “wet.” Nevertheless, the fourth-generation Lower East Side icon hopes to obtain full liquor privileges for its 65-seat cafe (15 tables, 28-foot bar) during the SLA subcommittee meeting Monday night. Said paperwork also notes that the eatery is “primarily a daytime business … customers waiting for a table will be given a number and will be texted when their table is available.”
As previously noted, DOB permits are already on file to convert the through-store into the “eating and drinking establishment.”
Sounds similar to Ratner’s. How do you feel about a Russ & Daughters sit-down joint?
