We’ve waited oh-so-patiently. Hoped. Never lost faith that this day would one day materialize. Now it’s finally here. We Need Medicine is the Fratellis first album in five years, since reuniting in 2012, and spoiler alert –  it’s a true return to form. It combines the hooky chords and frenetic pace of their debut, Costello Music, with the jangly good-time piano from their not as popular sophomore release, Here We Stand. Toss in lyrics that pull no punches, and you have a Top Ten Album of 2013. Easily. So friggin’ awesome.

Regarding the new record, Jon Fratelli modestly told us back in June:

It’s really the only kind of noise that three guys like us can make… whenever I go back and listen to [Costello Music], and it’s not often, we sound excited… And it’s not that we’re not excitable now, but we’re definitely not as hip monkey as we sounded then.

True, their sound has definitely matured since the debut, but this particular album blows up any sour skepticisms that Here We Stand may have left in your ears. There’s no doubt the Fratellis are back, ready to rock n’ roll.
