Banksy Backlash: ‘Mediocrity Killed the Rat’ on Rag & Bone Wall

Don’t get jumpy. This stencil on the Elizabeth Street mural wall of Rag & Bone is most likely not the work of Banksy. It appears some Banksy backlash is afoot at the corner of Houston, directly across the street from last week’s Grim Reaper stunt at the old Billy’s Antiques.
The monotone graphic features Banksy’s trademark rat holding a sign which reads, “mediocrity killed the rat – NYC,” a seemingly subtle dig at the artist and his over-saturation across the Five Boroughs this month.
The stencil itself arrived early yesterday.
Banksy’s October open air gallery show – “Better Out Than In” – across the Five Boroughs ends tonight. Allegedly.
