The East Village and Lower East Side are organizing to fight “Formula Retail,” which is simply a euphemism for chain stores. We’ve already seen it with the highly-vocal “No 7-Eleven” grassroots organization that first rallied to oppose a 7-Eleven at 500 East Eleventh Street (Avenue A).

Tomorrow evening, the East Village Community Coalition is hosting a workshop against the invasion of said formula retail.

From the mailbag:

EVCC invites you to voice your opinion about the current state of chain stores within the East Village. Join EVCC November 19th from 6pm-8pm at the Neighborhood Preservation Center, for a community workshop on Formula Retail. The workshop is open to all but space is limited. Please contact melanie@evccnyc.org or call 212-979-2344 if planning to attend.
