Douma Pizza Takes Over Pizza Junkie on Stanton Street

Another pizza parlor is giving it a go at 11 Stanton Street.
The Pizza Junkie couldn’t hack it here during its three-year tenure, even after the ownership change in April 2011. Business went belly up earlier this fall, and the establishment was shopped around … to some success. Looks like Douma Pizza was the lucky buyer for this troubled real estate.
Store awning and branded flag arrived onsite over the weekend. Douma is not yet open, but should be soon enough.
This block of Stanton Street, between Chrystie and the Bowery, is a tough sell for business owners. Despite the presence of the trendy Cata (and now Rochelle’s) holding down the corner. Foot traffic is rather light, and the only establishments seemingly surviving are International Playground, the mid-block bodega (aka Soho Deli Grocery). The other stores have been in various stages of flux over the years.
