This winter, the little ladies of the Lower East Side have an opportunity to step up to the plate, thanks to a new neighborhood winter softball clinic. Game on!

The clinic includes instruction on pitching, hitting, fielding – everything you’d pretty much expect to work on during the off-season – and it’s open to girls between the ages of 9 and 16. In addition, the OLS Lizzies 10U (ages 9 and 10) are looking for five more girls who’d want to play and represent the LES in major tournaments next year, around the NYC and Northeast region. Pretty big time, given the age bracket.

It’s being held at the Henry Street Settlement gymnasium, every Saturday for 20 weeks, from 2-4pm. They just started three weeks ago, so there is still time to get in on the action. Cost is between $50-75, and seems to depend on the player’s involvement with the program.

As of December 12, there are still spots available. For more info on signups and whatnot, please contact the club directly:

This Mott Street ATM Gouges with 17% Fee

Storefront ATMs are nothing new. In fact, their ubiquity was so pronounced that the city banned freestanding ones from sidewalks about a decade ago. Visitors to Chinatown or the Lower East Side unfamiliar with bank ATM locations when in need of cash might not realize the exorbitant fees some ATM operators are charging. For instance, […]

Blockchain Company Anchors Sunshine Cinema Replacement Tower

The glassy office building that replaced the beloved Sunshine Cinema has its first tenant. And an anchor, at that. The arrival of San Francisco-based Solana Labs comes mere weeks after the sidewalk bridge outside 141 East Houston came down (thereby freeing Yonah Schimmel from bondage). Solana Labs, a blockchain company, reportedly signed a lease for […]
