The Little Italy Street Art Project tapped Olek for its first public piece of 2014. And it’s an ambitious one. Yesterday evening, despite the cold, the world renown crochet artist strung a tapestry along the Mulberry Street parking lot fence between Canal and Hester. Just below the Ron English mural from 2012.
Using her trademark colorful camouflage as backdrop, Olek crocheted the message, “There is no such thing as part freedom.” This quote is attributed to South African visionary Nelson Mandela, who passed away last month at 95 years-old.
