Six months ago, Barramundi had briefly closed for some renovations; it returned to life with an altered storefront and new “Kiosk on Clinton” window concept. But much like its namesake (hermaphroditic) fish, the restaurant is again slated for more change.
Barramundi as we know it will end its illustrious run at the end of February. Owner Tony Powe tells us the last night of service at 67 Clinton is March 1. A month later, it’ll be reborn with an as-yet-unannouced name and cuisine.
The first incarnation of Barramundi was actually at 145-147 Ludlow alongside Collective Unconscious. It closed in 2004, and the buildings were demolished for a vacant lot. That parcel is being developed as we speak, though.
The Clinton Street location opened in 2005.
Meanwhile, the “2nd Floor on Clinton” speakeasy will reportedly remain intact through this metamorphosis.
