Service Restored to East Broadway Subway Escalator

Mere hours after its illustrious debut inside the East Broadway subway station last week, the controversial escalator broke down. Apparently there was some sort of “electrical issue” which caused the mechanism to power down. It was certainly an embarrassing turn of events for the MTA, but no less fitting. Indeed, this 81-stair escalator became a political football thanks to several launch delays during eighteen months of construction (work began in August 2012).
We are happy to report, though, that service has since been restored in time for the Monday morning commute.
