Breaking: Angel Orensanz Evacuated Due to Structural Instability

The Angel Orensanz Foundation at 172 Norfolk Street was just evacuated due to structural instability. Scanners are reporting that a load-bearing support column for the balcony has a crack. Some eyewitnesses claimed that “something fell” which precipitated the action. First responders immediately arrived and cleared the building.
Update: others are saying that the balcony floor “buckled” shortly after 7. No one was reported hurt, but cops and firefighters remain at the scene. Also, Breaking911 says that the balcony “separated from the wall.”
It was terrible timing, as tonight was the spring gala for the Soho Repertoire group. Gretchen Mol and Tim Blake Nelson were hosts.
Nothing is yet on file with the Department of Buildings, but you better believe they’ll be inspecting in a jiffy.
