152 Elizabeth St. will soon fall for luxury
All the real estate speculation, media puff pieces, and restaurant openings on Kenmare Street ultimately led to this. Another Little Italy parking lot selloff into luxury housing.
Crain’s reported last week that developer duo Sumaida + Khurana closed on the commercial building at 152 Elizabeth Street for $21 million. The all-brick structure itself won’t survive the sale, and will soon be razed to rubble. Its replacement is more upper crust glass – a 32,000 square-foot luxury condoplex with eight units. Famed Japanese architect Tadao Ando is helming design duties for the project, which will reportedly “incorporate a bit of the area’s gritty character.” Where’s the barf bag…?
Demolition should begin later this year, with a completion date pegged sometime in 2016. No paperwork has been filed with the Department of Buildings just yet. Stay tuned.
