Backlash against street artist Hanksy
Hanksy haters are starting to make themselves known around the Lower East Side. Over the weekend, we spotted several leaflets that subtly rail against the street artist and his prolific output of pop-culture puns.
The flyers carry a simple, self-explanatory message – “No thanksy” – alongside a mockup of a teary-eyed Tom Hanks with the Banksy rat. The one above was pasted to the Muni Meter outside Lost Weekend on Orchard Street.
When reached for comment, Hanksy told us that “despite the stellar celebrity reference, 10/10 will paint again.”
