Having cleared the State Liquor Authority this month, Peter Poulakakos and partner Dave Oz are ramping up press for their new establishment at 146 Bowery (corner of Broome Street) in the dying lighting district. Known as Bacchanal, the 150-seat venture is considered “a white-tablecloth restaurant without the tablecloths.” Poulakakos hired Veritas vet Scott Bryan to cobble together a menu with offerings such as hand-carved jamón ibérico to hamachi crudo.

Grub St notes that Bacchanal is opening this month, though that seems highly unlikely. Just look at the corner; it’s still a plywood eyesore.

Neighbors had been fighting the licensee for over a year due its location in a saturated area. Indeed, Sohotel now carries five liquor establishments in its base. The SLA originally denied the application, but reconsidered, and ultimately approved the measure earlier this month.

The glassy office building that replaced the beloved Sunshine Cinema has its first tenant. And an anchor, at that. Solana Labs, a blockchain company, reportedly signed a lease for […]
