Grinding fresh horseradish on Essex St.
We wait all year for this.
Starting this Sunday, the Pickle Guys will start grinding horseradish from freshly peeled roots. It’s an annual tradition bolstered by the advent of the Passover holiday, which incorporates the bitter herb into the Seder dinner.
(And you get a Mason jar out of it)
As in years past, the popular operation moves out to the sidewalk for orders. Just don’t be scared away by the gas-masked grinder…
And it’s probably best to avoid opening day, since that’s when all the tourists will queue up. Fair warning.
