The former Chase Bank at 104 Delancey has been shuttered for two years. Now a derelict mess, you wouldn’t necessarily know to enter. And that “secret” cache is what Gagosian Gallery was probably after with its high-profile Urs Fischer sculpture installation. The month-long pop-up is right there for the taking, but most would be deterred by the graffiti-tagged entrance.
Behind those double doors caked with paint, the field of play is a financial graveyard littered with busted lighting, open safes, and empty offices. Fischer chose this “ruined” landscape to place twenty bronze-sculpted pieces
The Urs Fischer show opened at the former Chase Bank last Thursday and runs through May 23.
