Allen Street Issues ‘Greetings from Chinatown’ with New Mural

That grimey one-story produce warehouse operating from the base of the old Manhattan Railway building (Tay Shing Corp.) now carries an ad mural plugging its Chinatown home. Last week, Nom Wah Tea Parlor and Chinatown Ice Cream Factory (and Tsing Tao beer) together commissioned a colorful billboard on the facade of 1 Allen Street. The paint job lasted all weekend, and was camera-ready by yesterday afternoon.
It’s the typical postcard welcome – “Greetings from Chinatown.” Each letter in the phrase carries a neighborhood specific illustration, including “N” for Nom Wah and “W” for the departed Fung Wah bus company.
Local art orphan Klughaus Gallery helped organize this particular project, and tapped DCEVE and his Smart Crew posse for the honor.
