Breaking: Water Main Break Causes Epic Sinkhole on East Houston Street [PHOTOS]

Shortly before noon today, a major water main break beneath East Houston caused a major collapse between Ludlow and Essex. Water had initially flooded the roadway and even some of the business on the block (i.e. Katz’s Deli). Now we’re left with a sinkhole of epic proportions. All lanes between Allen and Essex street are now reportedly closed to traffic.
According to DNAinfo, Katz’s Deli had to cancel some deliveries, but remains open after the torrent and subsequent collapse. There were no injuries in the incident, but traffic will be fun for the next however long.
Of course, this section of East Houston is undergoing infrastructural upgrades. And this one event just set back the timeline…
