This is What New York City Looks Like Through the Lens of Game Boy Camera

Before pin-sized digital cameras made their way into mobile phones, before digital cameras were accessible to the masses, there was the Game Boy Camera. The cartridge-based accessory was compatible with virtually all the Game Boy platforms, and considered the smallest digital camera at the time of its release (circa 1998). Photos snapped with the technology produced pixelated black-and-white thumbnails at a terrible resolution (256 x 224). A friend of ours had one at the time, and it was admittedly a hokey concept.

But in retrospect, it’s hard not to look back in awe. That’s precisely what David Friedman over at Ironic Sans has done. He took a bunch of pictures in New York City in 2000 – “When I first got the camera, I took a walk through midtown … just came across the images.”
